Reflections: Staying Grateful a Year Later

One year ago we, like many of you, started our work virtually full-time. We did not anticipate what was before us. What I’m grateful for is how our company of caring and committed individuals has grown during this challenging time. The growth that I would like to highlight is how we have allowed each other to be vulnerable during the days that never seemed to end and even through squares on various meeting platforms we’ve still connected by sharing stories, celebrating milestones and providing each other space to show our humanity after the murders of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd and Breonna Taylor and as some of us grieved from loss, sickness of families members and even isolation.

Leading a business is hard. Leading a business this past year at times has been debilitating. And at the same time, leading a business continues to be extremely fulfilling. I continue to do it, because of the special people that make this wild ride worth it, every single day. Those people are the employees that make Star Cypress Partners possible. Those people are our clients that lead important missions such as restorative justice in schools and communities and our defense health clients that have been on the frontlines of the pandemic.

One of our teams supports the United States Air Force’s International Health Specialists (IHS) Program. This team of bright, creative and dedicated consultants leads the strategic communications function for the IHS Program. Their recent work in support of the IHS Program’s 20th Anniversary led to the development of presentations, interviews and a series of videos that reinforce how IHS has a critical role in supporting global health engagement.

It was an absolute honor to see our team surge to amplify a mission in direct support of the military healthcare workers on the frontline of the pandemic. To learn more about the IHS program visit their website and watch our team’s videos highlighting the Air Force’s strategic, proactive and interoperable work with the United States’ allies and global partners. You’ll also have the chance to watch a video of U.S. Air Force Colonel Wesley Palmer, International Health Specialist Program Director interviewing Lt. Gen. Dorothy Hogg, U.S. Air Force Surgeon General. Thank you and congratulations to our team members, Kelley, Zach, Victoria and Margaret for their dedication to a critical mission that become even more relevant during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I’m grateful for you reminding me why we continue to work so hard for each other and the client missions we support every day.

We continue to enjoy meeting new organizations and leaders interested in transforming their work and improving how they support their employees or communities they serve. We’ve also grown through new business partnerships.
